About the Author
Dr. William I. Bauer is Associate Professor and Director of the Online Master of Music in Music Education program at the University of Florida. He has previously taught in K-12 and higher education in the states of Ohio, Indiana, and Virginia. Dr. Bauer has written book chapters, published articles in leading music education journals, and presented in many venues throughout the U. S. and abroad. He is an Apple Distinguished Educator, a Google Certified Teacher, and is currently a member of the Journal of Music Teacher Education editorial board.

An accessible book grounded in current research literature, with outstanding real-world activities for teachers at all levels

Full disclosure: I personally know and have worked with the author of this book.
I have used this text in teaching a graduate course on technology in music education. My students really enjoyed the text and they found that it helped them to deeply transform their teaching.
The text is well-rounded and has several strengths:
1. The number of real world examples and ideas for teachers is excellent. Several chapters have in-depth application sections that talk about activities and describe possible technologies to use in support of these activities (for example, the chapter on creating music lists 10 activities for improvising and 12 activities for composing). These are solid, real-world examples that teachers can use with their students.
2. The text provides one of the richest connections to research literature I have seen. This includes not only research into technology and music education, but constant connections and grounding in the best music education research.
3. The overall book is organized around the framework of pedagogic content knowledge (specifically technological pedagogic content knowledge, or TPACK). My students found the TPACK framework to be easy to understand, and they also felt that it helped keep technology in its place as a support for music learning rather than focusing on technology.
In sum, Dr. Bauer's enthusiasm about technology in support of the broader goals of a rich music education makes for a readable and helpful book that is an outstanding contribution to music education.
