Good text, no illustrations as described

This is a review of the Everyman's Library Cloth edition of The Odyssey by Homer, translated by Robert Fitzgerald, ISBN-10: 0679410473. I am not reviewing the actual work of The Odyssey, as it is a classic and Homer does not need my review, but I am reviewing the Everyman's Library edition of the work. The cloth hardcover, sewn binding, ribbon, and text layout is nice. However I was expecting illustrations by Barnaby Fitzgerald, as described in Amazon's description of this edition, and I could not find any illustrations in any of the pages in this book. Perhaps the illustrations are in another edition with a different ISBN number.

Homer, oh homer...

I must say that the book actually is enjoyable. I am not one to get "into" books all that often but this classic is still around for a reason. I would have knocked off some stars because my copy has writing all through it. Apparently someone used it for some sort of class and this idiot never heard of a post it note. Could have saved me A LOT of frustration just by avoiding writing in, what is now, my book...
I recommend that if you or anyone you know enjoys literary master pieces, pick up a hard copy of the Odyssey and give it as a present.

The Odyssey: A Classic

The Odyssey is truly a classical book beyond imagine. The whole book is written in iambic pentameter, a feat quite unlike reality. The book quality is absolutely perfect and it comes along with a strip to bookmark your spots. A Bible for those interested in forests

I'll start with the bad news on this one: I don't think this is going to be a popular favourite. But it really should be. Seymour & Busch do a marvelous job of explaining what's causing deforestation, why it's so pernicious and what can be done to stop it. With a compelling mix of case studies and data, the authors explain why forests can be a large part of the climate solution (as big as road transport) and at a lower price - the ultimate undervalued asset. It's uncertain if the authors' preferred method of financing forest protection will succeed, but this is a valuable stake in the ground, and a Bible for those interested in forests.

Very timely, and is wrapped up in REDD+ (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation), which the authors bring together in science, economics, politics of tropical forests and the ultimate aspects of climate change. About the Author
In her heyday, Dorothy Draper(1889-1969) was the most famous decorator in America. She had a monthly column in Good Housekeeping magazine and decorated luxury hotels such as the Greenbrier in West Virginia, along with restaurants, nightclubs, houses, apartment buildings, stores, and airplanes. She designed fabrics in the spirit of Brazil, Hawaii, and Spain. She understood the perils and pleasures of furnishing a home, and it was her uncanny understanding of human nature as much as her knowledge of scale, proportion and color that made America trust her.

Decorating IS fun!

This is a most interesting read. As other reviewers have written, it is
1) a humorous read
2) a source of timeless advice
3) could be improved upon by colored pictures
4) will make you a fan of the late designer if you aren't already.

I personally know little about interior design so I found many of her suggestions and explanations compelling (even though I won't be chintzing, striping, ruffling or letheretting anything.

Her numerous references to terms, fabrics (glass curtains) or architectural features I had to look up. It's fascinating how language changes over time.

On studios, Ms. Draper advises: "...the more closets, poke holes, and glory holes you can devise, the happier you will be."

Some of the color schemes and fabrics seemed righteously wackadoodle, however upon several internet searches for word references or in 40's interior design, yielded splendid visuals of the motifs she described.

Also for such an influential woman, it was so refreshing to read her advice and sense that she really understood and appreciated the reality of decorating on a dime.

I wish the pictures were in color here, as many in the book are in color on the Internet, but overall this was a wonderful read that I'll likely refer to time and again.

What a fun, retro book with relevant advice!

Although a lot of the advice calls for more financial resources than I actually have on hand, I really like this book. The language is fun, it is relevant, and the ideas are a lot of fun! I think a lot of regular folk have forgotten how to have a party, and EVERYONE seems to have forgotten the good ol' rules of etiquette and hospitality. This book is great for those of us who need some good and simple ideas, and want to offer a taste of the classic to out hosting and our home!

Fun, funny, and full of ideas

I'm really pleased with this book. I was glad to see that this new edition with its boldly striped cover is true to Draper's flamboyant style, which I've always loved. In terms of content, Draper's advice and drawings are practical and helpful, if dated. The book is definitely a product of its time. I found some of the advice to be startlingly basic, but also got some good ideas from it, particularly with regard to color schemes and fabric choices. Fans of Draper and of vintage domestic advice books will love the book, and since these are the reasons I bought it, I found the practicable ideas a bonus.

Diane Ravitch is Research Professor of Education at New York University and a historian of education. About the Author
Angela Freeman is an author, adviser and radio talk show host dedicated to the advancement of the Black community. Her first project was a landmark book entitled "God's Gift, How to be a Good Black Woman to a Strong Black Man". She has now added the title "Conscious Entertaining: The Return of the Domestic Goddess" to her resume. Angela is also creating a line of children's books for Black Nationalists. Angela's popular internet radio show, "Message to the BlackFam" airs every other Tuesday night from 7-9pm EST on War on the Horizon Radio. Despite her many roles, the one that gives her the most fulfillment is being a devoted wife and parent. She believes that there can never be a strong Black community until we create stable Black families.

Asante !!! Angela Freeman. Recently I bought this Book from Amazon.com ,Our Toddler enjoys reading. Beneficial Indeed. In The Wake of What Has Been going on everyday here with our AFRIKAAN BLACK CHILDREN'S being Gunned Down, Dumb Down, & Thrown under the Jail Without REASON. The African Black Core education should be Held in a more Formidable manner to enstregthen The African Black Child Foundations.This Book is needed now provoke ANCESTRAL AWARENESS In Our Own. My kids really love this book. They like seeing people who look like them in a book. My 5yrs. is already able to recite the words from memory and he has only had it or two days.It is a must read for little black children to understand where they stand in this world.

Excellent introduction to the framework

I like Sencha and recognize how powerful of a tool it is, but it's not the easiest to learn if it's your first javascript framework. A lot about the documentation provided by Sencha directly seems to assume that the reader is already familiar with Sencha or a similar javascript framework.

Sencha Ext JS Bootcamp in a Book filled the gap of introduction-to-the-framework very well for me. There's still a bit you need to know before diving into the book (general javascript usage, general OOP concepts, some command line usage), but as far as Sencha itself the book does a fantastic job of getting you up and running. It answers a lot of the questions that the official documentation and tutorials left me with.

Definitely worth the purchase.

Training Class in a Book for Sure

First off, this book is a bargain. I first balked at the $99 price tag for a book, but this really isn't a typical book, it is truly a class in book form. I believe it is the same book FigLeaf would include with their training course. If you can learn by reading a book, this would be the best ExtJS book out there. Therefore, considering a training class would be $2000 or more, this book has real value.

I've read and skimmed a few other ExtJS books and none are as in-depth as this book. It is primarily useful to beginners, but even if you've been working with ExtJS it probably has value in filling in the gaps of knowledge (I've used ExtJS for a couple of years and found it informational). The author walks you through creating an application through "lecture" then labs. This includes using Sencha Cmd and a vast majority of the ExtJS framework, theming, as well as setting up you environment.

I wished that an ExtJS 6 version was available, but really the main thing missing would be the new Fashion theming and 'modern' i.e. Sencha Touch components. Otherwise, this book covers everything you'd need for creating MVVM apps for desktop browsers in ExtJS 6.

Complete tutorial on Ext JS 5

I needed to come up to speed quickly with Sencha's Ext JS, and the resources out there were pretty slim. This book is a complete workshop, and I found it to be invaluable.

Sencha has moved on to Ext JS 6, but I was able to use the knowledge I gained here, working with Ext JS 5 to get me over the learning curve, and upgrading was easy after that. I do recommend using the same version of the tools as the book uses. If you try to use it directly with v6, you might have a few challenges, as regards file locations within projects. But the bulk of it will still be great knowledge.
