Fantastic and inspiring

If I should choose one book on the group of succulent plants called mesembs, this book would probably be it! The books more than 400 pages are packed with high quality color photos of all known genera of mesembs! Not all species of course, but a good and representative number of the most attractive and interesting species.

The accompaning information given on genera and species are just perfectly compact, precise and highly valuable. Whether the species are wintergrowers, grow on limestone and so on is easily aquired from the text.

Read the book and be amazed by this large and diverse genus of mostly southern African plants. This book is an important source of knowledge whatever is your level of experience.

I like the book very much

The book is very proffessional, covers a lot and have the practical tools for identification of the planes. The pictures are very good quality. When taking pictures of plants it is important to put in the picture a reference for the size (i.e. a Coin) to enable evaluation of the plant/flower size. The titles of the pictures are too small.
In general it is a very good books for these plants lovers and collectors of seculants.

Wade Cook has alot of knowledge and experience!!!!

I was motivated right away and quickly was sold. I have been trading and experimenting with options for about 4 or 5 years and have been making money by my own learning just this year consistently. Reading this book I can tell right away he knew what he was talking about and it wasn't hype. I didn't realize that selling options could be so safe and profitable. I was so influenced by this book, I want to read other things he wrote. I think this guy is a genius and has a lot to offer a lot of people. He has more knowledge on business and investing than most authors I have read and he explains things in a simple way that's easy to understand. I have read a lot of books on investing and that says a lot!!!! I just finished "Wall Street Money Machine" my first Wade Cook book. I want to check out "Don't Set Goals (the Old Way) by Wade Cook. The description sounds very good. It talks about the book making you a goal getter instead of a goal setter and after reading the wall street money machine, I think it might just work. Because I could tell that the money machine wasn't hype I am fairly confident that the don't set goals book will help me get kick started. I like that he gets right to the point and speaks from experience. If that book is anywhere near as good as the wall street money machine, I am going to think this guy is one of the most influential people in the world to help you succeed!!!!! I am obviously very impressed!!!!!!

Good introduction to rolling stocks, options, and calls

This is a very good introduction to rolling stocks, options, and calls. To me that is the main value of the book. The author was very clear in his explanations. Of course, be aware that there is also some selling of his courses and seminars.

I was particularly interested in rolling stocks. If that is your interest, I would recommend Rolling Stocks: Making Money on the Ups and Downs by Gregory Witt.

At first I was a little put off by Wade Cook's recent conviction, but please do not let that influence your decision in buying this book. You can learn to fish from a man, but just because that man is convicted of stealing fish does not diminish what you learned from him about fishing. This is not a book on ethics.

This book can be dangerously misleading to unsavy traders.

I read this book because it was recommended to me by another trader. I have almost 10 years of experience trading and have in the past utilized many of the techniques talked about by Mr. Wade. His strategies are highly risky and not what I would consider to be responsible investing. He really never delves into the downsides to his investing such as getting stuck in unwanted positions with large losses or getting very desirable stocks called from you while leaving the dogs running in your account (which is exactly what happened to my account when I used to trade in the manner he suggests). Some people will get lucky with his techniques, but I never found his methods to consistently win over time. I have found other methods that absolutely blow away his techniques, such as daytrading. A better book for investors who really want to benefit off of investing would be William Engs "Trading Rules", or "How to Make Money in Stocks" by William Oneil, or the Motley Fool Investing books.

While not essential, the target GIS audience should have a familiarity with GeoServer. This review draws on approximately 2 years of empirical knowledge of a working application of GeoServer. The preface cites the precursor “GeoServer Beginners Guide” of the same publisher. Again, while not essential, this reference provided useful bridging material and is recommended here also, however Mastering GeoServer is the first book I have read on this topic.

Mastering GeoServer has very easy to follow type set conventions which are well defined. Icons, tables and screen dumps are sufficiently to support demonstrations and procedures.

The strength of Mastering GeoServer is its content and flow, which is fast moving and tends to focus on prescriptive solutions without getting bogged down with theoretical depth and explanation. This reader was specifically looking for methods for speeding up the serving of very large and high resolution raster mosaic data sets as well as serving, to this point, prohibitively large raster data sets. At the time of this review, some of the solutions for serving these data sets as described in Chapter 2 had been successfully adopted. Similarly, Statewide (Queensland, Australia) vector layers previously too large in the resident environment had been successfully served using techniques suggested in Chapter 3.

The book is highly recommended for those with at the least a beginner knowledge base with GeoServer looking to add functionality and performance to their application.

An excellent tour of GeoServer features

If you are in hurry and a very concise suggestion is enough for you than here it is: buy this book and you won't regret!

I have enjoyed very much to read it. I have been using GeoServer extensively in the last years, so I was very curious to read it. I liked the writing style of the authors, the book is very clear and easy to read.
As suggested by the title the book is more useful for a user that already master the basic concepts of GIS and GeoServer's basic features.
The chapters will guide you trough many interesting topics.
Chapter 1, 2 and 3 guides you to configure a production GeoServer installation and to maximise the performance for raster and vector data.
Chapter 4 gives a very interesting tour of how to publish complex features.
Chapter 5, 6 and 7 focus on how to export maps, both as hard-copy with the printing plugin and tuning the several format GeoServer support as output.
Chapter 8 gives an overview of how a Spatial Data Infrastructure should be designed and what is the role of GeoServer inside it
The remaining chapters cover the use of GeoServer as a geo processor, dealing with security and how to control the health of your installation
To conclude this review: this is really a good book that provide a very good insight to the experienced users.

At first glance the structure of the book reminded me of the way that I have done over the years to gain the necessary knowledge to manage geoserver in enterprise environment, so the first thing I thought reading the book was: this is the manual that I have always wanted.

It guides you through all the steps, and I mean everyone, involved in getting geoserver seamlessly and efficiently integrated into a geospatial infrastructure.
I especially appreciated the chapters dealing with the topics that were most difficult for me to understand during my journey: I refer to chapters 4 "Using GeoServer to Serve Complex Features" and understood 9 "GeoServer as a Spatial Analysis Platform".

The first allows you to understand and master the technique to manage and publish through geoserver complex features.
The second one, wonderfully explained, allows to configure geoserver amplifying its potential "spatially interactive".

So the final judgment is the following: HOORAY!!!!! Finally an operative manual useful to install, configure and put "in action" a powerful tool to manage geographic data.

Great Resource!

I liked that there was a mixture of informal and formal assessments to use. I think written answers always show what a student understands the most and prefer it over multiple-choice. The great thing about some of the work was it was a mixture in one set: true/false, sequential order, and open-ended questions that required a complete, well thought-out answers.

Many people are familiar with the square stems and opposite leaves of the plants in the Mint Family. I like to start my classes with a discussion of the the mints because this pattern is so well known. What people don't realize is that similar patterns exist for other families of plants as well. You only need to learn about 100 broad patterns to recognize something about virtually every plant from coast to coast across the northern latitdudes.

In a two hour plant walk we typically start with the Mint Family, then progress through the Mustard, Pea, Parsley, Borage, Lily, and Aster Families, so that every student can easily recognize these common families representing several thousand species.

I've had people tell me they learned more in that two hour walk than in an entire semester of botany in college.

Excellent Resource!

Botany in a Day provides an excellent overview to field botany. By learning plant characteristics by family, the reader can more quickly identify their plant by identifying the patterns each plant family presents. The book provides a page or two (or more!) on dozens of the most common families in the northern half of the US. Each plant family section contains additional information about the plant genera represented in this family. The keys to plant families allow the reader to quickly determine what section to turn to. This book is best coupled with a plant field guide to individual species that is grouped by family. You can use the Botany in a Day information to narrow your selection to the family and the field guide to identify the specific species.

I highly recommend this book to both lay and professional people who work with plants.

This book Changed My Life !!!

This is the most comprehensive, thoughtful, well written book I know of on plant identification and their subsequent utilization as a resource be it food, rope or medicine. I am in awe at the depth of experience the author has with the plants in the book. The grouping and classification is clear and interesting. The patterns used to identify are within reach of anyone, its as if I've been given a key to unlock some of the beautiful mysteries of nature. I have a deeper appreciation and understanding of nature. Now I am truly participating in nature.

So far it has allowed me to teach my kids (3 and 5) more about plants than I learned in 25 years! I love this book.

I appreciate the Medicinal Properties of Plants section which has enough detail for a chemist but is understandable to the layperson as well. The entire book is written like that; professional or layperson will get a profound lesson. Its like an entire course on wild plants but written in a reference manual style with a very personal touch.

This has given me a level of confidence I have always desired. Any human being should be given a copy of this book at birth! This should be in every library and taught in every school. If animals could read I would recommend it to them to. Peace

Wonderful book for intuitive understanding of the subject

In the opening chapter, this book presents a wonderful simplified story of the evolution of plants, from a single cell to modern complex flowers. Both children and adults can gain a unique, intuitive understanding of this process from this explanation. My compliments to the author. He describes each plant family with interesting anecdotes and high quality line drawings. It's the first plant book whose lack of photographs didn't matter. Great tips for identifying families and individual plants have helped me enormously. Bravo!

Still good to have as a second opinion

Compared to the NG guide book...there were a lot more pictures and not as much detailed information on traveling to/in Vietnam. Still good to have as a second opinion.

I used this book throughout the country and really enjoyed its accuracy

I used this book throughout the country and really enjoyed its accuracy, photos, and descriptions. Do understand though, that the EW series travel books are basically more in-depth colorful travel brochures. But for the traveler on a typically American worker's-length vacation, they are superb. EW books are the catalyst for fully exploring foreign countries/cities.
