Alaska Home is by Debbie Macomber. It is the third book in the Alaska series. It is actually three books in one.
Falling for Him is the story of Christian and Mariah. Christian is the youngest of the O’Hallorans and the man behind the idea of bringing in ladies for the pilots and men of Hard Luck, Alaska in order to keep their pilots from quitting. His choice for secretary of their airplane business turns around and leaves. She has no intention of staying. Mariah Douglas did come and stay. Unfortunately, Christian takes a dislike to her and she, in turn, has a crush on him. This makes her extremely clumsy when Christian is around. She isn’t that way with the others. After her year in Alaska is over, Christian once more sets out to make her leave. Will he succeed? The book is cute and has some very humorous situations.
Ending in Marriage is book two and is the story of Duke Porter and Tracy Santiago. Duke is the best and the first of the pilots to sign on with the 0’Hallorans. He is the most vocal and the least gentlemanly of them. Tracy Santiago is a Seattle attorney who was sent by Mariah Douglas’ family to bring her back home and to sue the O’Halloran brothers. When Tracy traveled to Hard Luck, she rode with Duke Porter who was attracted to Tracy but hit it well beneath his contempt for her as a liberated woman. Tracy quickly determined that Mariah was here under her own terms and there was no case. However, they remained friends. Now Tracy has returned to Hard Luck to attend Mariah’s wedding. Her pilot is none other than Duke Porter. What will happen now? Sparks do fly and the fun begins.
The extra novella in this book is Midnight Sons and Daughters. It is the story of Scott O’Halloran, the adopted son of Sawyer O’Halloran and Chrissie Harris, daughter of one of the men in Hard Luck. The two grew up together after Scott’s Mother answered the ad for “work, a cabin, and 20 acres” offered by the O’Halloran brothers. She became the town librarian. As the only girl in town, Chrissie immediately became the best friend of Scott’s sister Susan. After having a crush on Scott as a child, Chrissie is determined not to get her heart involved with him again. She is a lawyer now working in hard Luck and Scott is newly retired from the military. He returns to Hard Luck to work for his Dad and Uncles. Sparks fly when they meet again. Can Chrissie keep her heart to herself?
The three books make the book fantastic. There is a lot to read and enjoy.

When I was a medical student, one of my professors advised me to read this book once a year until I retire and I have been doing it since. Evey thing I know about clinical medicine I owe to this book.
If medical students, doctors and other clinicians adopted this book and mastered it, we would be reducing the enormous cost of health care in this country.
I wish the American medicine was as clinical as the British system.
A doctor must first use his 5 senses, plus the 6th sense before resorting to senseless imaging and expensive technology.

A classic for all times

This book has been for many decades the bedrock of clinical skill education for many medical students and residents alike particularly with British oriented education. It is next only to the stethoscope in the must-have category. I find the layout in the recent editions particularly refreshing. The book maintains it's unique ability of providing useful and in depth background for clinical examinations as well as their various interpretation, while not overburdened you with unnecessary details. It played a significant role in my medical education and continues to provide useful and practical tips even in my practice.

About the Author
About the Authors: Joy Monice Malnar is Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Loyola University of Chicago, where she teaches courses in interior architecture and design. She holds a BFA in Interior Design from the Chicago Academy, as well as a MArch (Master of Architecture) from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She is a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Interior Design Educator's Council, and an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers. Her professional work has included both contract and residential design at such firms as Sargent and Lundy, Whitaker Associates, and Skidmore, Owings, and Merrill. Frank Vodvarka is Associate Professor of Fine Arts at Loyola University of Chicago, where he teaches graphic design, photography, and design theory. He holds a BA in Plastic & Graphic Arts from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an MFA in Graphics from the University of Chicago. His professional work has included graphic design, stage design, and architectural photography, and he is a member of the Interior Design Educator's Council and the Design Communication Association.

The opening salvo in what promises to be the new turf wars of design. Though limited to architecture and attendant arts, the battle royale will be enjoined in brand, package and product design -- commercial arts are now the true avant garde of design practice.

I found Chapter 11 ("Sensory Schematics") to be the most engaging and practical, and have been using my own variation of the authors' "sensory slider" for years.

My firm's invention of what we call NeuroDesignTM offers new and fruitful options for companies looking to capture, clarify and magnify the emotionally resonant components of their visual messaging.

It is heartening to see, finally, serious effort being put into this arena by architects.

One would think that Walker's The Red Scream (Doubleday, 1994), which won an Edgar Award, would be a tough act to follow. The intrepid author, however, exhibits no signs of sophomore jinx in this spectacular sequel featuring Texas journalist Molly Cates. Samuel Mordecai, a fanatical, self-proclaimed prophet, kidnaps a busload of schoolchildren and their driver, a detached Vietnam veteran, and holds them beneath a heavily armed compound. While Cates delves into Mordecai's bizarre past and federal authorities attempt to negotiate with him, it becomes clear that the hostages are doomed. The final 30 minutes of Under the Beetle's Cellar are almost painfully suspenseful, and listeners will surely draw parallels with the horrifying incidents in Waco, TX, involving David Koresh and the Branch Davidians. Judith Ivey reads well, and the hokey music is used sparingly. The abridgment is adequate, but listeners may find the nonstop action a bit disconcerting. Logical, coherent and thrilling

Anna Fields does an amazing job of reading the unabridged version of this Texas-based thriller. Actually, I suspect a born storyteller. The cast of characters is a most unlikely arrangement - our "Lone Star Monthly" reporter, involved with policeman ex-husband, a pyscho dog, a double amputee Veteran, an artist/poet/busdriver, a David Koresh style fundamentalist lunatic, a nun turned assassin, a homeless alcoholic, pregnant sorority girl, a requiste number of men in suits and some incredibly strong children -- somehow it works. The school bus is highjacked, and the clock is ticking. Suspenseful and very believable, full of Austin area landmarks, thoughtful commentary on religion (IMPORTANT, if true), and a bit of middle aged romance, this especially clever novel will not disappoint. I will definitely hunt down the other books written by this author. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
Note: I really did not care for the name of the book, which surprisingly evolves from an Emily Dickinson poem - it seemed trite or silly until I got into the story.

Engrossing and scary.

Mesmerizing thriller about a crazy cult leader and his followers who kidnap a bus driver and 11 of his young passengers (all under the age of 11) and bury them underground in a school bus for 50 days. The story has two setttings -- the outside world, featuring a reporter who is trying to find out as much as possible about the cult leader's past so she can figure out a way to convince him to let the children go -- and the world inside the bus, where the bus driver, a Vietnam vet with no experience with children, overcomes his own fear to try to keep the kids calm and safe. He starts telling them a story in installments, one chapter a day, and also begins working on a way to barracade themselves in the bus in preparation for the day he knows is coming, the day the cult leader will try to sacrifice them all. Something about these kids and that bus driver's story (about a turkey vulture named Jacksonville) really drew me in. This is probably the first time a stock thriller has ever reduced me to tears by the end (of course, I did have a fever of 102 at the time). Highly recommended!

Could not put it down!!

This books amazing. The plot was original and the characters engrossing.
Molly Cates is back on the scene when her connection with Samuel Mordecai, a fanatical cult leader, becomes known. Molly, a reporter in Texas, wrote about Mordecai for her piece on religious cults. Now Mordecai has kidnapped a school bus with children, and the bus driver, and is holding them hostage on his compound.
This book should be read by all mystery and thriller fans. Mary Willis Walker has no parallel when it comes to involved plots that could become convoluted and ridiculous in less capable hands. She tells the story of a boy turned cult leader who was terribly abused as a child, but never uses that fact to excuse his behavior, rather to understand how a boy emotionally and physically abadoned comes to such a horrific and devastating point. The scences between the bus driver and the school children are some of the best in fiction. You feel their terror and resentment of Mordecai and cheer when they outwit him.
A great read!
